Your Interpretation of Robert Cormier's The Chocolate War
In this assignment, you and your group will complete a story-telling project where you reproduce a scene from the above mentioned text. You choose your own scene, and tell the story the way you see it. That means you have to know the story, so by Thursday and Friday, I will expect that you can take and pass the book comprehension test. You must be able to show that you have read the text in order to participate in this activity.
As you know from class, we have broken this project into a few different parts. Under the umbrella of independent film and a Trinity News Show, we are going to create a series of episodes based on scenes and events from the book. Some of you may choose to do a news report, some of you may choose to create a scene from "Trinity High School." Whatever you choose to do, and whatever group you choose to work in, all of you will write a problem-solution essay. I believe writing this essay will help you get a deeper insight into the situation, and, in turn, help you create a better scene in your project. Equally, I think writing, shooting, editing, and publishing your project will also help you write your essay. Additional writing will include: broadcast news scripts, broadcast news live reports, screenplays, cinematographic explanations, character analyses, and lots of web content.

You will be working in small groups most of the time, and you will also be learning new software (scriptwriting software, nonlinear video editing software, graphic-editing software), new story-telling skills (storyboarding, scriptwriting, shotlisting, cinematography planning), and how to use new hardware (cameras, tripods, microphones, computers).
To help you plan your news show and your independent films, these two documents will help you with the planning. Use the storyboard for planning your film, and use the rundown for planning your show. We will then work together to make them happen.
